Not The Same as Before
New Year, new hope, new challenges, new beginning, and most importantly, new celebration of the annual Celebrations. As we welcomed the Year 2021, we all know that the month of January is the month that we celebrate the Fiesta of Vigan City Ilocos Sur. In this time of Pandemic, are we still gonna be able to celebrate the Fiesta of Vigan as the same celebration from the previous year?
Before, the Vigan City Fiesta is held in honour of St. Paul the Apostle, the city’s patron saint, on 25 January each year. Locals and tourists gather to experience and see the street dancing, carnivals, food fairs, and arts and crafts, adding to the attraction of this UNESCO World Heritage City. From the previous celebrations, Vigan City Fiesta was held happily and cheerfully because the crowds are full of laughters and cheers. I still remember how excited and happy I am to watch the parades and street dancings. And how much I enjoy to experience the rides and the foods in carnival.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, many have changed, the celebrations of Vigan City Fiesta was really changed. The happy and excited faces of the people has been replaced by sadness, in particular season that we used to celebrate it without wearing a facemask/face shield, social distancing, and without the very strict protocols. But now, everything went new. Yes, we can still celebrate the Fiesta of Vigan , but we have to follow the protocols, because it is for the sake of our safety.
We may not be able to celebrate the Fiesta of Vigan the same as we celebrate before, we should always remember that our. health is more important. Let us all hope and pray that this pandemic will now vanish, and later on, we can celebrate the annual celebrations the same as before.
