The Pearl of the Orient Seas has been freed
After more than 300 years under Spanish domination, the Pearl of the Orient Seas has been emancipated, and Independence Day Philippines is one of the most important festivities in the country.
Every June 12th, the Philippines celebrates its independence. Emilio Aguinaldo first raised the Philippine flag and declared independence in Kawit, Cavite, after hundreds of years under Spanish rule. This was also the place where the Marcha Nacional Filipina, which became the music to the Philippines national anthem, was first heard.
The Philippines was under Spanish administration from the 16th through the 19th centuries. Filipinos attempted to break free in 1896, which ended in the Philippine Revolution.
On June 12, 1898, Emilio Aguinaldo declared Philippine independence, despite the fact that the country lacked two key characteristics of statehood: territory and sovereignty. The area lacked the legitimacy that comes with international recognition. Aguinaldo's government lacked sovereignty because the Philippines were still under Spanish authority at the time.
When the Philippine Revolution ended in August 1898, the Philippine-American War broke out the following year, and America colonized the Philippines for the next 50 years. The Philippines obtained independence from the West on July 4, 1946. The Philippines formally became a state with people, territory, administration, and sovereignty at that time.
However, Araw ng Kalayaan date falls on June 12 because it was the day when Filipinos showed the world how much Filipinos value freedom and democracy, proving that we can stand on our own. Hence, the birth of the independence day PH.
